Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

The York Rite of Freemasonry

The York Rite is one of the oldest and most esteemed branches of Freemasonry, offering Master Masons a deeper exploration of the Craft’s historical and spiritual lessons. A Master Mason may join to further his Masonic education and complete the symbolic journey begun in the Blue Lodge. While the Blue Lodge provides the foundation, the York Rite expands upon these traditions through three distinct bodies: the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, the Council of Royal & Select Masters, and the Commandery of Knights Templar. Through a series of degrees and orders, the York Rite expands upon the legends of King Solomon’s Temple and the values of knighthood, offering members a deeper understanding of the Craft's historical and spiritual foundations and the fraternity's ancient traditions. Whether you are seeking historical insight or stronger fraternal fellowship, the York Rite provides the next step in your Masonic education.

Our Story

The York Rite Bodies at the Dayton Masonic Center  represent a key branch of appendant Freemasonry, offering Master Masons the opportunity to further explore the historical and philosophical lessons of the Craft. This system is composed of three distinct yet cooperative organizations: the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, which focuses on the recovery of lost secrets; the Council of Royal & Select Masters, known as "Cryptic Masonry" for its completion of the Temple story; and the Commandery of Knights Templar, a chivalric order inspired by medieval knighthood. These bodies meet within the historic, neo-Gothic halls of the Center, utilizing specialized spaces like the Templar Room, which is specifically designed with mosaics and decor to reflect the themes of the Commandery.
